The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
