The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all – the Hereafter and this world. 25
