The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 and taught to him 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah - see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
