The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
