The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 and taught to him 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all the Hereafter and this world. 25
