The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the setting star, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 then came down close 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
