The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Then he approached and descended 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
