The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the declining star, 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
