The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
