The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
