The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 then came down close 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
