The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it setteth, 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
