The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
