The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it sets: 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
