The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all – the Hereafter and this world. 25
