The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the declining star, 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 then came down close 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
