The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
