The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
