The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it plunges, 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
