The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the star when it sets: 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
