The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all – the Hereafter and this world. 25
