The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it sets: 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 then came down close 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
