The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
