The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it setteth. 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]. 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
