The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it descends, 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
