The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
