The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the setting star, 1 Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]. 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
