The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 and taught to him 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
