The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the setting star, 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
