The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
