Seest thou one who turns back, 33 and gives so little [of himself for the good of his soul,] and so grudgingly? 34 Hath he knowledge of the Unseen so that he seeth? 35 Has he not heard what is contained in the Book of Moses, 36 And with Abraham who kept his word: 37 That no bearer of burden shall bear the burden of another- 38 That a man receives but only that for which he strives; 39 and that in time [the nature of] all his striving will be shown [to him in its true light,] 40 and that he shall then be fully recompensed, 41 And that to your Lord is your returning; 42 that it is He who brings laughter and tears; 43 That it is He Who granteth Death and Life; 44 And that He (Allah) creates the pairs, male and female, 45 From a sperm-drop when it is emitted 46 That the second creation is incumbent on Him; 47 and that it is He alone who frees from want and causes to possess; 48 and that He is the Lord of (the star) Sirius, 49 It was He who totally destroyed the former 'Ad 50 and Thamood, and He did not spare them, 51 and before them the nation of Noah, they exceeded in evil and were insolent. 52 And He destroyed the Overthrown Cities (of Sodom and Gomorrah). 53 So there covered them that which did cover (i.e. torment with stones). 54 Concerning which then, of the bounties of thy Lord, canst thou dispute? 55 This is a Warner, of the (series of) Warners of old! 56 There hath approached the approaching Hour. 57 Of it, [from those] besides Allah, there is no remover. 58 Do you, perchance, find this tiding strange? 59 And do you laugh instead of weeping, 60 While you are indulging in varieties. 61 Therefore prostrate for Allah, and worship Him.
