Have you seen him who turns his back, 33 and grudgingly spends very little for the cause of God? 34 Does he have any knowledge of the world beyond the ken of sense-perception, and therefore, clearly sees (the Truth)? 35 Or has he never yet been told of what was [said] in the revelations of Moses, 36 And of Ibrahim (Abraham) who fulfilled (or conveyed) all that (what Allah ordered him to do or convey), 37 To wit, that a burthened soul shall not bear the burthen of another. 38 And that man will not obtain anything except what he strove for? 39 And that his striving shall soon be seen- 40 and in the end he will be repaid for it in full; 41 And that to your Lord is the goal- 42 And that it is He (Allah) Who makes (whom He wills) laugh, and makes (whom He wills) weep; 43 that it is He who causes death and gives life; 44 And that He creates the two mates - the male and female - 45 From a drop of semen when emitted; 46 That the second creation is incumbent on Him; 47 And that it is He Who enricheth and preserveth property. 48 and that He is the Lord of (the star) Sirius, 49 And that He destroyed the former (tribe of) A'ad, 50 And Thamud - and He did not spare [them] - 51 and before them the nation of Noah, they exceeded in evil and were insolent. 52 And He destroyed the overthrown cities [of Sodom to which Prophet Lout (Lot) was sent]. 53 So they were covered with whatever covered them? 54 On which then of your Lord's signs do you cast doubt? 55 This is a warner of the warners of old. 56 What is to come is imminent. 57 No one besides God can rescue a soul from hardship. 58 Do you then marvel at this discourse, 59 And will ye laugh and not weep,- 60 and divert yourselves all the while? 61 [Nay,] but prostrate yourselves before God, and worship [Him alone]! ۩ 62
