Al-Najm 3 of 3
Didst thou (O Muhammad) observe him who turned away, 33 and gives so little [of himself for the good of his soul,] and so grudgingly? 34 Does he have knowledge of the unseen, so he sees? 35 Has he not been informed of what is in the Scrolls of Moses, 36 and Abraham, who paid his debt in full? 37 That no soul laden bears the load of another, 38 and that man shall have only that for which he strives; 39 That (the fruit of) his striving will soon come in sight: 40 Then he will be recompensed for it with the fullest recompense 41 And that thy Lord, He is the goal; 42 And that He it is Who makes (men) laugh and makes (them) weep; 43 that it is He who causes death and gives life; 44 and that He Himself created the two sexes: male and female, 45 from an ejected drop of sperm; 46 and that upon Him rests the second growth, 47 And that He it is Who enriches and gives to hold; 48 that He is the Lord of Sirius, 49 that He it is Who destroyed the ancient 'Ad, 50 And (the tribe of) Thamud He spared not; 51 and that He it is Who destroyed the people of Noah before for they were much given to iniquity and transgression. 52 And that it is He Who threw down the upturned townships? 53 So there covered them that which covered. 54 Then which of the favors of your Lord do you doubt? 55 This is a warning among the warnings of yore. 56 The near event draws nigh. 57 None beside Allah can disclose it. 58 Do you then find these tidings strange? 59 Why do you laugh rather than weep? 60 and divert yourselves all the while? 61 So make obeisance to Allah and serve (Him). ۩ 62

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
