HAST THOU, then, ever considered him who turns away [from remembering Us, and cares for no more than the life of this world,] 33 who at first gave a little, then later held back? 34 Does he possess the knowledge of the Unseen, and therefore he sees? 35 Or has he not been told of what is in the scrolls of Moses, 36 And of Abraham who fulfilled his engagements?- 37 That no bearer of burden shall bear the burden of another- 38 And that man can have nothing but what he does (good or bad). 39 He will certainly see the result of his labor 40 And afterward he will be repaid for it with fullest payment; 41 That to thy Lord is the final Goal; 42 and that it is He who makes to laugh, and that makes to weep, 43 And that it is He (Allah) Who causes death and gives life; 44 And that He createth the two spouses, the male and the female, 45 out of a [mere] drop of sperm as it is poured forth, 46 And that [incumbent] upon Him is the next creation 47 That it is He who makes you rich and contented; 48 It is He who is the Lord of Sirius. 49 that He it is Who destroyed the ancient 'Ad, 50 and Thamud tribes, 51 and before them the nation of Noah, they exceeded in evil and were insolent. 52 and He overthrew the subverted cities [of Sodom and Gomorrah] 53 and then covered them from sight forever. 54 Then which of the gifts of thy Lord, (O man,) wilt thou dispute about? 55 He who warns you is one of the warners of old. 56 The Hour that was to come draws ever nearer. 57 and none but Allah can avert it. 58 Do you marvel then at this discourse (the Koran)? 59 And you laugh and do not weep 60 Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements (singing, etc.). 61 Prostrate yourselves before God, and worship Him alone! ۩ 62
