Didst thou (O Muhammad) observe him who turned away, 33 And he gave a little, then refrained? 34 Does he have knowledge of the hidden, so he can foresee? 35 Has he not heard what is contained in the Book of Moses, 36 And with Abraham who kept his word: 37 To wit, that a burthened soul shall not bear the burthen of another. 38 That man can have nothing but what he strives for; 39 And that his striving shall soon be seen- 40 And afterward he will be repaid for it with fullest payment; 41 and that the final return is to your Lord, 42 and that it is He alone who causes [you] to laugh and to weep; 43 And that it is He (Allah) Who causes death and gives life; 44 and that it is He who creates the two kinds - the male and the female 45 From Nutfah (drops of semen male and female discharges) when it is emitted; 46 and that upon Him rests the second growth, 47 And that He it is Who enricheth and contenteth; 48 It is He who is the Lord of Sirius. 49 and that He destroyed Ad, the ancient, 50 And Samood, so He spared not 51 and before them the nation of Noah, they exceeded in evil and were insolent. 52 And the subverted cities He overthrew. 53 So there covered them that which covered. 54 Then which of the Graces of your Lord (O man!) will you doubt. 55 This is a Warner, of the (series of) Warners of old! 56 The Hour that was to come draws ever nearer. 57 None except Allah can avert it. 58 Do you, perchance, find this tiding strange? 59 And you laugh at it and weep not, 60 Will you occupy yourselves simply in merriment? 61 So bow yourselves before God, and serve Him! ۩ 62
