The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
The Hour of Resurrection drew near and the moon split asunder. 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 They also gave the lie to (the splitting asunder of the moon) and only followed their desires. Yet everything is destined to reach an end. 3 And certainly some narratives have come to them wherein is prevention-- 4 Containing consummate wisdom; yet warnings were of no avail. 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 running in confusion towards the Summoning Voice; [and] those who [now] deny the truth will exclaim, "Calamitous is this Day!" 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled. 9 Then he invoked his Lord (saying): "I have been overcome, so help (me)!" 10 And We opened up the flood gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 and caused the earth to burst forth with springs, so that the waters met for a purpose pre-ordained: 12 And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails, 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 And certainly We left it as a sign, but is there anyone who 15 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 16 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 it swept the people away as though they were palm-trunks uprooted: 20 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 21 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 22
