The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic." 2 And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement. 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 far-reaching wisdom [was held out to them]: but [since] all warnings have been of no avail, 5 (Muhammad), leave them alone. On the day when they will be called to a terrible punishment, 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day." 8 ۞ Before them the people of Nuh rejected, so they rejected Our servant and called (him) mad, and he was driven away. 9 Noah prayed, "Lord, help me; I am defeated". 10 We opened the Gates of Heaven with torrential water 11 And We made the earth break forth with springs; so that the water met for an affair already decreed. 12 And We carried him upon a thing of planks and nails, 13 She floats under our eyes (and care): a recompense to one who had been rejected (with scorn)! 14 And indeed, We have caused such [floating vessels] to remain forever a sign [of Our grace unto man]: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 15 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 16 We have made the Koran easy to remember, is there any that will remember! 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 On an unfortunate day We sent upon them a continuous violent wind 19 Plucking out men as if they were uprooted stems of date-palms. 20 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
