The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
The Hour has drawn nigh: the moon is split. 1 But if they see a sign they turn away, and say: "This is the same old lie continuing," 2 And deny, and follow their own vain desires; but every matter is determined at its time. 3 And indeed there has come to them news (in this Quran) wherein there is (enough warning) to check (them from evil), 4 Wisdom consummate. But warnings avail not. 5 So turn thou away from them. Upon the day when the Caller shall call unto a horrible thing, 6 with down-cast eyes they shall go forth from their graves, as though they were scattered locusts. 7 Hastening towards the caller, the disbelievers will say: "This is a hard Day." 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 Thereupon he called out to his Sustainer, "Verily, I am defeated; come Thou, then, to my succour!" 10 We opened the Gates of Heaven with torrential water 11 And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. 12 And We bare him on a thing of planks and nails. 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 And assuredly We left it for a sign. Is there then anyone who would be admonished? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 Aad too belied. How then were My punishment and My warnings! 18 We let loose against them a violent roaring wind on a day of ill omen, continuous, 19 Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted. 20 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 21 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished! 22
