The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
The Hour has drawn nigh: the moon is split. 1 And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic." 2 for they are bent on giving it the lie, being always wont to follow their own desires. Yet everything reveals its truth in the end. 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 but the warnings have proved to have no effect on them. 5 So turn (your) back on them (for) the day when the inviter shall invite them to a hard task, 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 Hastening towards the caller, the disbelievers will say: "This is a hard Day." 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. 9 Then he supplicated to his Lord, (saying): 'I am overcome, help me' 10 Then opened We the gates of heaven with pouring water 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed. 12 We bore him on an [ark] which, made of planks and nails, 13 floated on under Our eyes: a vindication of him who had been rejected. 14 We have left it as a sign. Is there any that will remember? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 'Ad (people) belied (their Prophet, Hud), then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 18 Surely We sent on them a tornado in a day of bitter ill-luck 19 plucking up men as if they were stumps of uprooted palm-trees. 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 We have made the Koran easy to remember, is there any that will remember? 22
