The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 But if they [who reject all thought of the Last Hour] were to see a sign [of its approach,] they would turn aside and say: "An ever-recurring delusion!" 2 They have rejected it and have followed their own desires, but all matters will be settled (by God). 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 far-reaching wisdom [was held out to them]: but [since] all warnings have been of no avail, 5 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) on the day when the Summoner summoneth unto a painful thing. 6 with down-cast eyes they shall go forth from their graves, as though they were scattered locusts. 7 These disbelievers will say, "This is a hard day". 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied [the truth] before them. They belied Our messenger saying, "He is mad!" He was rebuffed, 9 So he cried unto his Lord, saying: I am vanquished, so give help. 10 So We opened the gates of heaven with water pouring forth. 11 and caused the earth to gush with springs, so that the waters met for a predestined matter. 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 which floated on the water before Our very eyes. The flood was a recompense for the deeds of the disbelievers. 14 And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember? 15 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 16 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 We let loose against them a violent roaring wind on a day of ill omen, continuous, 19 Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground). 20 How was then My punishment and My commination! 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
