The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Hour of Resurrection drew near and the moon split asunder. 1 But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic." 2 And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement. 3 There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them), 4 Mature wisdom;- but (the preaching of) Warners profits them not. 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 They will come forth, with humbled eyes from (their) graves as if they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ Before them the people of Nuh rejected, so they rejected Our servant and called (him) mad, and he was driven away. 9 And so he called unto his Lord, saying, 'I am vanquished; do Thou succour me!' 10 We therefore opened the gates of heaven, with water flowing furiously. 11 and caused the earth to burst forth with springs, so that the waters met for a purpose pre-ordained: 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 running before Our eyes-a recompense for him denied. 14 And We left it as a sign – so is there one who would ponder? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 17 Ad cried lies. How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 18 We sent a tumultuous wind against them on a day of unremitting misfortune, 19 Sweeping men away as though they were uprooted trunks of palm-trees. 20 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
