The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 But if they see a sign they turn away, and say: "This is the same old lie continuing," 2 And they belied, and they followed their lusts; and every affair cometh to a final goal. 3 Messages deterring them from evil had come to them, 4 a Wisdom far-reaching; yet warnings do not avail. 5 Therefore, turn away from them. On the Day when the Caller summons them to a terrible thing, 6 Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading, 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ There belied before them the people of Nuh. So they belied Our bondman and said: a madman; and moreover he was reproven. 9 Then he invoked his Lord (saying): "I have been overcome, so help (me)!" 10 Thereupon We opened the gates of the sky for water to pour down, 11 And caused springs to gush out from the earth, so that the two waters met totalling a quantity that had been destined. 12 But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: 13 Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. 14 And indeed, We have caused such [floating vessels] to remain forever a sign [of Our grace unto man]: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 17 The people of 'Ad too rejected the truth. How terrible was My punishment and My warning. 18 On an unfortunate day We sent upon them a continuous violent wind 19 Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted. 20 How was then My punishment and My commination! 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
