The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
The Hour of Resurrection drew near and the moon split asunder. 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 for they are bent on giving it the lie, being always wont to follow their own desires. Yet everything reveals its truth in the end. 3 And assuredly there hath come unto them tidings wherein is a deterrent. 4 profound in wisdom, but all warnings have been of no avail: 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading, 7 These disbelievers will say, "This is a hard day". 8 ۞ The folk of Noah denied before them, yea, they denied Our slave and said: A madman; and he was repulsed. 9 Thereupon he prayed unto his Lord: verily am overcome, so vindicate me. 10 We opened the Gates of Heaven with torrential water 11 And We opened up the springs of the earth; and the waters met for a decreed end. 12 And We carried him on a (ship) made of planks and nails, 13 which sailed on under Our supervision: a reward for him who had been shown ingratitude. 14 And We left it as a sign – so is there one who would ponder? 15 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 16 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 17 'Ad also gave the lie (to Hud). So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 18 Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune, 19 which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 20 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 21 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 22
