The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic." 2 They belied (the Verses of Allah, this Quran), and followed their own lusts. And every matter will be settled [according to the kind of deeds (for the doer of good deeds, his deeds will take him to Paradise, and similarly evil deeds will take their doers to Hell)]. 3 there has come to them many a tiding wherein there are warnings, 4 narratives that are full of consummate wisdom. But warnings do not avail them. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 with down-cast eyes they shall go forth from their graves, as though they were scattered locusts. 7 They will hasten forward to the caller, gazes fixed. And the unbelievers will say: "This is the day of untold woe." 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 So he prayed to his Lord: "I am helpless, deliver me." 10 So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We made the earth break forth with springs; so that the water met for an affair already decreed. 12 We carried him, (Noah), on a vessel built with boards fixed together with nails, 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 We made (the story of Noah) as evidence of the Truth. However, is there anyone who would take heed? 15 So how did My punishment turn out, and My threats? 16 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 plucking up men as if they were stumps of uprooted palm-trees. 20 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 21 But We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 22
