The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour has drawn nigh: the moon is split. 1 (Regardless of any Signs these people see), they turn away and say: “This is an ongoing sorcery.” 2 They have rejected it and have followed their own desires, but all matters will be settled (by God). 3 Tidings containing a deterrent have come to them 4 Wisdom consummate. But warnings avail not. 5 So leave them, [O Muhammad]. The Day the Caller calls to something forbidding, 6 With downcast eyes, they come forth from the graves as they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ Before them the people of Nuh rejected, so they rejected Our servant and called (him) mad, and he was driven away. 9 And so he called unto his Lord, saying, 'I am vanquished; do Thou succour me!' 10 And so We caused the gates of heaven to open with water pouring down in torrents, 11 and caused the earth to gush with springs, so that the waters met for a predestined matter. 12 And We bore Noah on the vessel built of planks and nails, 13 Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. 14 We have left it as a sign. Is there any that will remember? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 We have made this Qur'an easy as a reminder. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
