The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
The Last Hour draws near and the moon is split asunder. 1 And if they see a miracle they turn aside and say: Transient magic. 2 They also gave the lie to (the splitting asunder of the moon) and only followed their desires. Yet everything is destined to reach an end. 3 And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent -- 4 Extensive wisdom - but warning does not avail [them]. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 they will come forth from their graves, with their eyes downcast, [swarming about] like locusts scattered [by the wind,] 7 Rushing towards the caller; the disbelievers will say, “This is a tough day.” 8 ۞ The people of Noah had denied before them, and had called Our votary a liar, and said: "He is possessed," and repulsed him. 9 so he cried out to his Lord, saying, "I am overcome, so help me!" 10 Then opened We the gates of heaven with pouring water 11 And caused springs to gush out from the earth, so that the two waters met totalling a quantity that had been destined. 12 And We bore him upon a well-planked vessel well-caulked 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 16 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished? 17 And there belied the A'ad; so how dreadful have been My torment and warning! 18 Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune, 19 which hurled people around like uprooted trunks of palm-trees. 20 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 21 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will pay heed? 22
