The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
The Last Hour draws near and the moon is split asunder. 1 But if they [who reject all thought of the Last Hour] were to see a sign [of its approach,] they would turn aside and say: "An ever-recurring delusion!" 2 They have rejected it and have followed their own desires, but all matters will be settled (by God). 3 And there has already come to them of information that in which there is deterrence - 4 Perfect wisdom (this Quran), but (the preaching of) warners benefit them not, 5 so ignore them. On the Day when the Crier will call out about a horrible event, 6 their eyes will be humbled as they come out from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 They shall be hurrying forth towards the caller, and the unbelievers (who had once denied this Day), will say: “This is a woeful Day.” 8 ۞ There belied before them the people of Nuh. So they belied Our bondman and said: a madman; and moreover he was reproven. 9 so he cried out to his Lord, saying, "I am overcome, so help me!" 10 So We opened the gates of the cloud with water pouring 11 and caused the earth to gush with springs, so that the waters met for a predestined matter. 12 And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails, 13 Which sailed right under Our eyes: A recompense for him who had been denied. 14 And We left it as a sign. Is there anyone who will be warned? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: 19 It swept people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees. 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 22
