The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Last Day came near, and the moon split apart. 1 But if they see a sign they turn away, and say: "This is the same old lie continuing," 2 They have belied, and follow their own fancies. But, every issue will be settled! 3 And assuredly there hath come unto them tidings wherein is a deterrent. 4 narratives that are full of consummate wisdom. But warnings do not avail them. 5 Therefore turn away from them; on the day when the announcer will call towards a severe unknown matter – 6 they will come out of their graves, their eyes cast down, hastening towards their Summoner as locusts rushing about. 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ There belied before them the people of Nuh. So they belied Our bondman and said: a madman; and moreover he was reproven. 9 Therefore he called upon his Lord: I am overcome, come Thou then to help. 10 So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 and We caused the earth to burst with gushing springs: so that the waters met for a purpose which had been decreed. 12 And We bare him on a thing of planks and nails. 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 And We left it as a sign – so is there one who would ponder? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 Tearing men away as if they were the trunks of palm-trees torn up. 20 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 21 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 22
