The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” 2 They have rejected it and have followed their own desires, but all matters will be settled (by God). 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 far-reaching wisdom [was held out to them]: but [since] all warnings have been of no avail, 5 Therefore, turn away from them. On the Day when the Caller summons them to a terrible thing, 6 They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. 7 Rushing towards the caller; the disbelievers will say, “This is a tough day.” 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 Then he called on his Lord: "I am one overcome: do Thou then help (me)!" 10 Then We opened the gates of heaven unto water torrential, 11 And caused springs to gush out from the earth, so that the two waters met totalling a quantity that had been destined. 12 We bore him on an [ark] which, made of planks and nails, 13 Sailing in front of Our sight; as a reward for the sake of one who was rejected. 14 And indeed, We have caused such [floating vessels] to remain forever a sign [of Our grace unto man]: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 15 Then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 16 We have made the Koran easy to remember, is there any that will remember! 17 The people of 'Ad too rejected the truth. How terrible was My punishment and My warning. 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 It swept people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees. 20 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 21 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished! 22
