The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
THE HOUR HAS come and split is the moon. 1 And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” 2 They denied (the Truth) and followed their own lusts. Yet everything will come to a decision 3 And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent -- 4 which are full of wisdom; but the warnings do not help. 5 turn thou away from them. On the Day when the Summoning Voice will summon [man] unto something that the mind cannot conceive, 6 they will come out of their graves, their eyes cast down, hastening towards their Summoner as locusts rushing about. 7 Hastening, with eyes transfixed, towards the Caller!- "Hard is this Day!", the Unbelievers will say. 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help." 10 Thereupon We opened the gates of the sky for water to pour down, 11 And We made water to flow forth in the land in springs, so the water gathered together according to a measure already ordained. 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 We have made the Koran easy to remember, is there any that will remember! 17 TO THE TRUTH gave the lie [the tribe of] Ad: and how severe was the suffering which I inflicted when My warnings were disregarded! 18 For We sent against them a furious wind, on a Day of violent Disaster, 19 Tearing men away as if they were the trunks of palm-trees torn up. 20 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 21 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will pay heed? 22
